Pont Twym, People's Park

Llanelli Town Council and its Grounds Maintenance Partner, Llanelli Rural Council have recently undertaken a litter clearance around Pont Twym in Peoples’ Park in Llanelli. The area is the responsibility of Carmarthenshire County Council with the works project carried out receiving their approval. The project was made possible by funding support from the Home Office, Dyfed Powys Police and Crime Commissioner Administered, Safer Streets Fund.  The aim of the Safer Streets Fund is to tackle crime and antisocial behaviour with the aim of making communities safer.

Llanelli Town Council Leader, Cllr John Jenkins visited the park to thank Officers for their work and to support the clearance project. Cllr Jenkins said “It’s great to see Llanelli Town and Rural Councils working together in this project. A clean-up of Pont Twym will be very much appreciated by local residents and all the people who frequent the pond. I’m looking forward to the team completing a thorough clean and tidy of the pond and improving the appearance and cleanliness of the area.”

Police and Crime commissioner Dafydd Llywelyn said; “It is great to see partners coming together in the Llanelli area for this initiative, and to see the positive impact the Safer Streets funding is having on the area.

“Ensuring the security and safety of residents is a priority of mine - everyone deserves to live safely, and free from harm.  I have been working closely with Llanelli Town Council and Carmarthenshire County Council as well as other partners over the years to tackle the crime and anti-social behaviour issues in this area, with the aim of creating a vibrant and safe community.

“I have invested significantly in the area over recent years with community grants I made available in addition to the new CCTV system that is in place across the town. The Safer Streets funding will further build upon my work over recent years and I hope the residents will feel a positive difference in their communities.”
