CRUYFF COURT PENYFAN PROJECT

Construction works commence on Monday 31st January on the Cruyff Court Penyfan at Penyfan Park. Llanelli Town Council is developing the court with funding support from the Cruyff Foundation (set up by legendary Dutch Footballer Johan Cruyff, who had the dream after his career, to create space for children to develop through sports), Carmarthenshire County Council Targeted Finance Fund, Carmarthenshire County Council Welsh Church Fund and Llanelli and District Rotary Club.

Construction of the Sports Court will take around 8 weeks to complete and during this time both the current MUGA pitch and basketball court at Penyfan Park will be taken out of use and removed.

Works will be carried out from around 8am – 16.30pm and it is hoped there will be a minimum of disruption during the project. Please also note that during the works, the recycling centre located in the park car park will be removed to accommodate the works compound.

Once completed, the innovative Sports Court project will be available for Community and local school use with organised activities being created by Penyfan and Llwynwhilwg Tenants and Residents Association, PL Kicks (Swansea Community Trust), New Dock Stars RFC, Llanelli Town AFC Community Hub, Carmarthenshire County Council among others.

Town Mayor Cllr Mike Cranham J.P. and Bigyn Ward Member Cllr Jeff Edmunds visited the park prior to work commencement. Cllr Cranham said ‘I am delighted that works are about to commence on this project that will provide first class facilities for local young people and Community Groups here in the new Cruyff Court Penyfan’. Cllr Edmunds said ‘It is a great pleasure to see this project come to fruition, it is the result of excellent partnership working between the Community here in Penyfan, the Town Council, County Council and the funding partners, I look forward to seeing the facility opening very soon’.
