Democracy and Citizenship - The Meet the Mayor Project

Every year Llanelli Town Council undertakes a Democracy and Citizenship programme called 'Meet the Mayor'. Each Llanelli Town Primary School is invited to attend the Town Council Offices to learn about democracy, the Town Council, the role of the Town Mayor, citizenship and the Future Generations Act.

During 2023-24 over 300 primary school pupils and around 120 secondary school and college pupils attended.

The project also invites pupils from Coleg Sir Gar and Llanelli secondary schools who are studying Public Services and Politics.

The project forms part of the Town Council activities relating to the Well Being of Future Generations Act.

In 2024 the project was awarded 'Best Democratic Health Innitative' at the One Voice Wales Awards Conference
