The town of Llanelli with a population of some 35,000
people is situated in the South Eastern corner of Carmarthenshire in
South West Wales, some twelve miles west of the City of Swansea. The
Town Council's administration area covers approximately 2070 acres.
Llanelli is a coastal town where the Welsh language is still widely
spoken. It has a long association with the tinplate, steel, and coal
mining industries, and is the home of the world-famous Llanelli Scarlets,
one of Wales’ four professional regional rugby teams. .
Communications for both industry and tourists are excellent with Intercity rail connections, and a direct road link connecting to the M4 motorway at Junction 48 (Hendy). The coastal relief road with its splendid scenic views connects Sandy Road west of the town with the A.484 Llanelli/Swansea highway at the Parc Trostre roundabout. |
