The Town Council provides 'grass roots'
services direct to the community which it represents.
- Day-to-day responsibility for the running and upkeep of a network
of community centres for use by
its electors.
- Stebonheath Park, the home ground
of Llanelli Amateur Football Club, and also the home of Llanelli Amateur
Athletic Club.
- The Selwyn Samuel Indoor Bowls Centre,
the day-to-day management of which during the indoor bowls season (September
to April) is vested in the Llanelli Indoor Bowls Club
- The joint operation with
Llanelli Rural Council, since 1977 of:
- The Senior Citizens Day Centre at the YMCA Building, Stepney Street,
Llanelli which offers meals at subsidised prices to our senior citizens.
- The Llanelli District Cemetery, and the newly-opened Llanelli
Crematorium.
- The maintenance of a network of public footpaths
- The maintenance of the public amenity area at Bryn Yard, Trinity Road
- Administration of public allotments
- Sponsorship of an annual holiday scheme for senior citizens residing
in its area
- Sponsorship of berths on Sail Training Association voyages for young
people from its area
- Joint responsibility, with Llanelli Rural and
Carmarthenshire County Council, for the annual Llanelli Christmas
Carnival.
- Part funding of Area Rugby and Football Development Officers, who
are responsible for developing the two sports within the schools of
the area
- Providing financial assistance to a wide range of local voluntary
and charitable organisations.
- • Joint responsibility, with the Llanelli Chamber of Trade and
Commerce, for town centre floral hanging baskets.
