On Monday 13th November, Jonathan Fearn, Carmarthenshire County Council Head of Property, indicated to the Town Council that the agreed asset transfer of Penygaer Playing Fields would have to be put on hold pending the result of the Public Inquiry into the village green application for Llanerch Playing Fields. The legal advice he had received was for the services of the Town Council to be withdrawn during this period with sole responsibility for Penygaer therefore reverting to the County Council. In order to protect the current arrangement a meeting took place last week between officers of both councils where it was agreed that the Town Council would continue to provide the ground maintenance at Penygaer and would move forward with these arrangement as if the transfer had taken place as originally planned on 1st April 2017. Media Release - Llanelli Parks Kept Safe from Closure

A number of Llanelli parks and playing fields have been saved from the threat of closure following a decision taken by Llanelli Town Council and Llanelli Rural Council to work together to maintain them. The two councils subsequently asset transferred a number of parks and play areas from Carmarthenshire County Council as part of its asset transfer programme. The councils already have an excellent track record of working together having first started working in partnership in 1975 when they formed a joint committee to oversee the acquisition and management of Llanelli District Cemetery. Llanelli Wanderers benefitting from Town Council Asset Transfer

LLANELLI WANDERERS have like most sporting clubs been concerned regarding whether or not they will be able to afford to continue playing on their home ground in the climate of asset transfers. The club has been playing at Parc Y Dre for many years but like most green spaces owned by the County Council Parc y Dre has become subject of close scrutiny.
