Llanelli Town Council came in to existence on 1st April 1974. Its administrative area is divided into 5 wards, represented by 20 elected members, as follows:-

The Council meets at the Town Hall, Llanelli on the first Wednesday of each month, with all Committee meetings being held at the Council's offices at The Old Vicarage, Town Hall Square, Llanelli.

The Council's two Standing Commitees - the Building and Finance Committee and the Planning and Development Committee - meet on the second Monday following each monthly Council meeting. The Council's other Committees meet on an 'ad hoc' basis.

Council members are automatically trustees of a charity known as Llanelli Town Estate which generates a substantial annual income for the benefit of the town.
